The School of Education (SOE) has been in the existence in this University since 2016. The school started with 130 students who were transferred from Moi University. It was established to provide quality Teacher Education programmes with focus on preparation and production of school teachers who are progressive in their perspective towards the instructional process and values professional development. The programme is also infusing elements of competence based curriculum in various courses. Currently, there are fourdegree programmes offered namely Bachelor of Education (Arts), Bachelor of Education (Business Studies), Bachelor of Education (Arts) with Special Needs Education and Bachelor of Education (Arts) with Guidance and Counselling. The following subject combinations are offered: English/Literature, Geography/Business Studies, Geography/Religion, History/Geography, History/Religion, Kiswahili/Geography,Kiswahili/History, Kiswahili/Religion, Mathematics/Business Studies,and Mathematics/Geography.
The school is launching the following Postgraduate courses:
- Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum Studies, Educational Management and Policy Studies, and Educational Psychology.
- Master of Education in Curriculum Development,Educational Administration andEducational Psychology and
- Postgraduate Diploma in Education.
The current population of the students in the School of Education is four hundred and sixty who include the Government sponsored (GSSP) and Self-sponsored (PSSP). All the students are based in Bomet.
Dr John M. Momanyi
DEAN SCHOOL OF EDUCATION
Dr. John M. Momanyi holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Educational Psychology from Moi University. Dr. Momanyi is a Senior lecturer and researcher in Educational Psychology with a bias in motivation and Educational Measurement and Evaluation. He has over 13 years of University teaching and has served as Departmental Examinations Coordinator, Faculty Examinations Officer and Ag. Dean. He is a member of various professional associations among them the International Society for the Study of Behavioural Development (ISSBD). He has taught and supervised several post graduate students both at masters and doctoral levels. Dr. Momanyi has served as the Chairman of Board of Management of Chebwai Adventist Schools in the past. His prior work experiences include teaching Chemistry and Mathematics at secondary school level and administration in secondary schools spanning over 20 years.
Dr. Momanyi is currently the Dean of the School of Education, Bomet University College.
DR. JEPKEMBOI RUTH CHOGE
Dr. Jepkemboi Ruth Choge holds a PhD in Education (Educational Administration) from Moi University, Master of Education in Educational Administration and Bachelor of Education, both from the University of Nairobi. She has trained with the Kenya School of Government in Strategic Leadership Development Programme and Senior Management Course. She has also trained with IGAD, CERWAN on Conflict Early Warning Analysis Techniques and Regional Scenario Building.
Dr. Choge is a Senior lecturer in the Department of Educational Management and Policy Studies, School of Education, Bomet University College (a Constituent College of Moi University). She has undertaken several researches and disseminated the findings in various Journals, Policy Dialogues, Conferences, books and book chapters. Her research interests include Educational Leadership and Policy, Gender and Development, Peace and Cohesion, Instructional Supervision and Education Technology and Development, Environmental Education, Gender, women and Youth Empowerment. Besides teaching, she trains, supervises and mentors postgraduate students. She also participates in community service and outreach activities, and serves as Chairperson of the Board of Management in two high schools in Kenya.
Through experience and training, Dr. Choge has acquired skills that can be applied in real life situations to provide solutions to the society. Notable among these are; Negotiation skills, Communication, Research and Report Writing, Coaching, Mentorship, Leadership and Management skills.
Dr. Choge is currently the Chair of the Department of Education at Bomet University College.
DR. TONY OKWACH OMUSONGA
Dr. Tony Okwach Omusonga is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Educational Media at Bomet University College (BUC) and Head of Research and Innovation Startup Village. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum Studies degree (2009) from Maseno University. He is spearheading the entrenchment of research and innovation culture, collaborations and outreach/extension services at BUC through organization of conferences, training workshops and development of curricula and fundable research proposals, among other activities. He has 11 years’ experience of University teaching and has previously served as Chair of Departmental Postgraduate Studies Committee and Teaching Practice Coordinator at Maseno University and Chair of Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Kaimosi Friends University College. He has supervised to completion 7 PhD and 22 Masters Students and published 30 articles in peer reviewed international journals. His research interest is in the field of Curriculum and Instruction. His research has centered on the search for relevance in the curriculum and application of instructional strategies and technology to enhance teaching and learning. His prior work experiences include teaching French and History at secondary school level and management of secondary education spanning over 10 years. He is a Member of the Kenya Association of Teachers of French (KATF) and the International Federation of Teachers of French (FIPF).
DR. RICHARD MAITE SIGILAI
Dr. Richard Maite Sigilai holds a PhD in Education (Educational Administration) from Moi University, Master of Education in Educational Management from Egerton University and Bachelor of Education, from Moi University. He has trained with Kenya Institute of Management on Certification in Program Monitoring and Evaluation (CPM&E), Certificate in Guidance and Counseling by Christian Churches’ Educational Association and Certificate in Educational Management by Kenya Institute of Education.
Dr. Sigiali is a lecturer in the Department of Educational Management and Policy Studies, School of Education, Bomet University College (a Constituent College of Moi University). He has undertaken several researches and disseminated the findings in various Journals. His research interests include Educational Leadership and Policy, Instructional Supervision and Transformational Leadership. He trains, supervises and mentors postgraduate students. He also participates in community service and outreach activities, and currently serves as a member of PTA, Tenwek of High School in Kenya.
Through experience and training, Dr. Sigiali has acquired skills that can be applied in real life situations to provide solutions to the society. Notable among these are; Research and Report Writing, Coaching, Mentorship, Leadership and Management skills.
Dr. Sigilai is currently the Teaching Practice Zone Coordinator and a member of Students Mentorship and Guidance Committee in Bomet University College.
DR. HELLEN JEPCHIRCHIR METTOH
Dr. Mettoh is a lecturer at Bomet University College, Kenya and a member of Kenya Association of Professional Counsellors. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Educational Psychology (University of Eldoret), Master of Philosophy in Educational Guidance and Counselling (Moi University), Bachelor of Education (Arts) (Egerton University), Higher Diploma in Counselling Studies (Kenya Association of Professional Counselors). Certificate in Working with clients with Depression and Anxiety using Cognitive Behavior Therapy (Kenya Association of Professional Counselors) and also a Certificate in Drugs and Addiction (Kenya Association of Professional Counselors and Olixer Consulting). Research interests: Psychological issues, Gender, Education, Development, Drugs and substance abuse and Human Sexuality.
DR. SALOME LULLEY
Dr. Lulley is a lecturer at Bomet University College, Kenya. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Curriculum Instruction and Educational Media (Moi University), Master of Philosophy in Communication Technology (Moi University), Bachelor of Education (Arts) (Moi University). Research interests: Social cultural issues, Gender, Education, Development, Drugs and substance abuse and Human Sexuality.
DR. JOHN W. WAYONGO
Dr. John W. Wayong’o is a lecturer in English methods, School of Education, Bomet University College. He holds a PhD in English language education from The University of Nairobi, Master of Education ( M.Ed ) in English language education and Bachelor of Education Arts (B.Ed Arts) both from Moi University.
Dr. Wayong’o is an educationist, a researcher and experienced lecturer of English education. He has also researched and published in many international journals. Besides, Dr. Wayong’o is an avid reader.
Administrative Assistant – School of Education
Teclah has a Master of Business Administration (Financial Management) from The Catholic University of Eastern Africa and holds a Bachelor of Business Management – Accounting option from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology a Christian Lady of good and regular standing in the Seventh-day Adventist Church, skilled and highly motivated professional with over 10 years of experience in Administration, Financial and Teaching Sectors. She is reliable and dependable and seeks for new responsibilities within a wide range of employment areas. She is always engaged in continuous learning in order to broaden my knowledge and experience and seek to grow others.
Teclah is currently an Administrative Assistant in the School of education and belongs to the mentorship team and families of Bomet University College.
