Message from The Head of Department
The Department of Curriculum Instruction and Educational Media is domiciled in the School of Education. The department contributes to the advancement of educational standards and innovation within and beyond the university through development and evaluation of curricula, training educators in effective teaching methods, and integrating modern educational technologies into the learning process. In addition, the department supports research in curriculum design, instructional strategies, and educational media. Furthermore, it offers professional development programs to strengthen teaching practices. The ultimate goal of this department is to enhance educational quality through curriculum innovation and effective teaching practices.

FACULTY PROFILES

Dr. Polycarp Muchesia Ishenyi

Dr. Ishenyi is a Kenyan and a practicing Christian (Catholic). He is currently a lecturer of pedagogy and Education Management at Bomet University College and the current Head of Department, Curriculum Instruction & Management in the School of Education since January 2022. Before then, he was the Coordinator of the same department from May 2021 to January 2022. Also, he was the Chairman, School Graduate Studies Committee (SGSC) from May 2021 to June 2022. He is a member of Bomet University College Teaching Practice Management Committee. Before joining Bomet University as lecturer, he served as an Assistant Lecturer at Mt. Kenya University, Kibabii University and Masinde Muliro University of Science & Technology. Before then, he was a Secondary School Teacher of Mathematics/Economics and Principal appointed by Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Kenya. He has specialised in Mathematics Education. He is a supervisor of post graduate students. He has published substantively in refereed journals and published a book Teacher Trainees Perception towards Computer Use in Math Instruction with Lap Lambert- Germany. He has attended and presented research papers in several local as well as international conferences. His Research interests include: Classroom Discourse, Instructional Technology, Teacher Knowledge Domains, General Pedagogy, Educational Management, among others. He is a member of Kenya Association of Educational Administration and Management (KAEAM) since the year 2014. He is a Peer Reviewer for Pedagogy and Educational Management: International Journal of Science and Research (IJSR) ISSN: 2319- 7064.

Dr. Tony Okwach

Dr. Tony Okwach Omusonga is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Educational Media at Bomet University College (BUC) and Head of Research and Innovation Startup Village. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum Studies degree (2009) from Maseno University. He is spearheading the entrenchment of research and innovation culture, collaborations and outreach/extension services at BUC through organization of conferences, training workshops and development of curricula and fundable research proposals, among other activities. He has 11 years’ experience of University teaching and has previously served as Chair of Departmental Postgraduate Studies Committee and Teaching Practice Coordinator at Maseno University and Chair of Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Kaimosi Friends University College. He has supervised to completion 7 PhD and 22 Masters Students and published 30 articles in peer reviewed international journals. His research interest is in the field of Curriculum and Instruction. His research has centered on the search for relevance in the curriculum and application of instructional strategies and technology to enhance teaching and learning. His prior work experiences include teaching French and History at secondary school level and management of secondary education spanning over 10 years. He is a Member of the Kenya Association of Teachers of French (KATF) and the International Federation of Teachers of French (FIPF).

Dr. John Waiyongo

Dr. John W. Wayong’o is a lecturer in English methods, School of Education, Bomet University College. He holds a PhD in English language education from The University of Nairobi, Master of Education ( M.Ed ) in English language education and Bachelor of Education Arts (B.Ed Arts) both from Moi University. Dr. Wayong’o is an educationist, a researcher and experienced lecturer of English education. He has also researched and published in many international journals. Besides, Dr. Wayong’o is an avid reader.

Dr. Salome Lulley

Dr. Salome Lulley is a Lecturer in the Department of Curriculum Instruction and Technology in the School of Education at Bomet University College and the current Examination Officer for the School. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Curriculum Instruction and Educational Media (Moi University), Master of Philosophy in Communication Technology (Moi University), Bachelor of Education (Arts) (Moi University). Research interests: Social cultural issues, Gender, Education, Development, Drugs and substance abuse and Human Sexuality. Dr. Lulley is currently a Teaching Practice Zone Coordinator in Bomet University College.

Dr. Ouma Omito

Dr. Ouma Omito is a full-time lecturer of Education in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Technology, School of Education, Bomet University College. He holds a PhD degree in Education, Communication and Technology from Rongo University, Kenya. Dr. Omito has a long experience in the field of education. Previously he taught with Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and Umma University. At Umma University, he was the founding Head of Department and Dean of School of Education and Social Sciences. Dr. Omito showed outstanding academic excellence in several universities where he was trained. At the University of Nairobi, besides being the top First Class Honors holder in Bachelor of Education (Arts) (Mathematics and Business Studies) degree, he was awarded an alumni prize for being the best overall student in the College of Education and External Studies in the academic year of 2006/2007. This was then closely followed by a prestigious, Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund (SYLFF), Master in Distance Education degree scholarship at the same university. Dr. Omito’s outstanding excellence in academics did not stop there, he proceeded to Rongo University for a PhD degree in Education, Communication and Technology where he competitively won PhD research project funding by the National Research Fund in the 2016/2017 financial year. He has a lot interest in both research and education courses.

Dr. Daniel Chesaro

Dr. Daniel K. Chesaro is a Lecturer at the Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Management, School of Education, Bomet University College. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Education (Curriculum Development) from Moi University. He has a Master of Education in Curriculum Development and Bachelor of Education (Arts) from Kenyatta University respectively. Additionally, he has augmented his educational credentials with a Diploma in Educational Management from the Kenya Education Institute of Management (KEMI) and a Certificate in Educational Management from the Kenya Education Staff Institute (KESI). Dr. Chesaro has a Pre-University training from the National Youth Service (NYS). Leveraging this comprehensive training, he has enjoyed a distinguished career trajectory, excelling as a High School Teacher, Deputy Principal, and Senior Principal. Dr. Chesaro's University teaching experience extends beyond Bomet Uiversity College as He has also taught at Kabarak University and Egerton University. In the context of research, Dr. Chesaro has made significant contributions to his field with an extensive publication record. Notably, he has authored a seminal book focusing on High School Revision, showcasing his commitment to enhancing educational resources and methodologies. His Research interests are in Education, Curriculum Development, Gender and Development.

Dr. Pius Simiyu

Dr. Simiyu Chililia Pius holds a Doctorate of Philosophy Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Kibabii University, a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology and Bachelors of Education Degree from Kenyatta University. Dr. Simiyu has vast academic experience of having taught as an assistant lecturer for over 7 years at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Kibabii University, Mount Kenya University and Daystar University. At Kibabii University Dr. Simiyu supervised several postgraduate students and mentored many. He has done Scholarly Research and published several papers in Refereed International Journals, apart from paper presentations in conferences. His Research Interest has been centered on application of ICTs and Use of Technology in Enhancing Instruction in class. His PhD competitive Research at Kibabii University won Project Funding by the National Research Fund in the year 2017/2018. Dr. Simiyu currently is a lecturer, Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Technology in the School of Education, Bomet University College. He has been a High school teacher and Administrator for over 31 years mentoring the youth. He has been involved in several Outreach Programmes in HIV/ AIDS Awareness, Mentorship and Career sessions, Poverty Eradication and National Conservation Programmes. He has been the Kenya Scouts Association Chairman for Bungoma County, apart from sitting on several Boards in the Learning Institutions. He is a member of Sub-County Stakeholders Forum on Teenage Pregnancy and a member of the County Education Forum. Dr. Simiyu has been a Director and Consultant at Eagle Bird ECDE Training Institute for over 10 years and a KESSHA Academic Chairman at Sub-County Level.
