Charles W. Recha is a climatologist with research interests in climate variability, seasonal
climate forecasts, soil water conservation, livelihoods, and socio-cultural contexts of climate
change. He is an Associate Professor of Geography and Head of Quality Assurance and Data
Management at Bomet University College (BUC), Kenya. Prior to this, Prof. Recha was head
of Postgraduate Studies, Partnerships and Linkages (2022-2024) at BUC, Director of
International Linkages and Career Services (2019-2021) and Chairperson Geography
Department (2014-2019) at Egerton University, Kenya. Prof. Recha is a recipient of research
projects and awards that include a Team Fellowship at the Stellenbosch Institute for
Advanced Studies (STIAS) South Africa (2025), C.V Raman Visiting Fellow at Jawaharlal
Nehru University, New Delhi, India (2018); a post-doctoral Fellow at Lund University,
Sweden (2016); Australia Africa Award Fellow, University of Queensland (2014-2015),
Young Researchers Grant of International Foundation for Science (2012) and a doctoral
research fellow with the Africa Climate Change Fellowship Programme (ACCFP)
(ICRISAT-Mali) (2009/2010). Prof. Recha has published peer reviewed short
communications (2), book chapters (4) and journal articles (33). According to google scholar,
he has been cited 638 times with and i10-index of 11 as of August 2025. Since 2013, Prof.
Recha has supervised to completion ten (10) postgraduate students (4 PhDs, 6 masters) and
he’s a vice-Chair of the Kenya Meteorological Society. Prof. Recha is an active peer
reviewer of manuscripts for journals and has been involved in various short course trainings
and workshops. He has on occasions been appointed an external examiner by various
