Message from The Head of Department
The Department of Accounting, Finance and Marketing is hosted in the School of Business and Economics. Today’s ever changing and increasingly competitive business environment necessitates the development of manpower equipped with relevant tools for decision making. The Department works to enrich the knowledge and skills required for innovative and timely intervention for successful management in business. The Department offers the following programmes:

FACULTY PROFILES

Dr. Mary Opondo

Dr. Mary Opondo is a Lecturer of Economics in the School of Business and Entreprenuership at Bomet University College. She is a holder of a PhD in Economics from Kenyatta University with extensive teaching and research experience. She holds a Master’s degree in Economic Policy and Management from Makerere University. Her research interests are the informal sector, poverty and economic growth. She is a member of the Doctoral Association of Eastern Africa.

Prof. Patrick Ojera

Prof. Patrick Boniface Ojera teaches accounting, finance, auditing, taxation and management with a rich flavor of industry experience, focusing on current trends and issues. He is passionate about developing contemporary ethical financial and general management professionals.A Certified Public Accountant of Kenya, CPA (K), Prof. Ojera joined Bomet University College as Associate Professor, Finance and Accounting, in October 2020. He has extensive experience in top management in industry and academic administration; focusing on financial, strategic and general management.He has co-authored a university level accounting book and has over 60 publications in peer-reviewed journals. Prof. Ojera was “Winner of the 2019 Emerald Literati Award for Outstanding Author Contribution for Book Chapter 'Indigenous Financial Management Practices in Africa: A Guide for Educators and Practitioners” published in Advanced Series in Management, Volume 20, 71-96, Copyright @ 2018 by Emerald Publishing Limited. ISSN: 1877-6361. In addition Prof. Ojera has supervised over 60 postgraduate students to completion.

Prof. Johnmark Obura

Prof. Johnmark Obura is a Senior Lecturer, Department of Accounting and Finance in the School of Business and Entrepreneurship; and Currently the Head of Research, Innovation, Training and Extension at Bomet University College. He Holds a PhD in Business Administration (Finance) from Maseno University, Master of Business Administration (Finance), Master of Science in Applied Statistics and Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science; all from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. His research interests are in Quantitative Finance, Quantitative Analysis, Business Statistics and Research; and Business Information Systems. Dr. Obura is a Certified Public Secretary (CS-K). He is a member Kenya National Statistical Society (KNSS). He has previously served as a Chairman of Department of Management Science at Maseno University for over five years where he served as a Lecturer for 10 years. He has supervised a number of postgraduate students and has published in a number of International Refereed Journals. Dr. Obura Headed the Rapporteur Team to DIES Dialogue Event Coordinated and Hosted on a blended platform by Bomet University College (a Costituent College of Moi University) in Collaboration with German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and Inter University Council of East Africa (IUCEA) through Webinar Series. Moreover, he was In-charge of Secretariat to the 1 st and 2 nd Bomet University College International Conferences. Dr. Obura has been involved in a number of funded research projects including DAAD- DIES 2022 NMT Micro-fund Project on Innovative Pedagogies and Quality Assurance in Online and Blended Learning in Universities/Higher Education amidst Coronavirus(COVID-19) Pandemic.

Dr. Clement Nkaabu

Dr. C.G. Nkaabu is a Lecturer in the School of Business and Entrepreneurship at Bomet University College. He is a holder of PhD in Business Management (Marketing Option) from Moi University. He has extensive experience in teaching, research and supervision of post graduate students. He has held positions of Campus Director and Senior Assistant Registrar in his previous appointments. Dr.C.G. Nkaabu has consulted for various corporations in the areas of rebranding, product development, customer satisfaction surveys, attitude change, customer service and strategy development. He is a seasoned trainer and a motivational speaker. He has mentored and continues to mentor many students. His research interests are in the areas of branding, consumer behaviour, knowledge management and entrepreneurship. Notably, he has authored numerous papers in peer reviewed journals. He is a member of the Marketing Society of Kenya and Marketing Science Institute. Dr. Nkaabu´s personal creed is “Always Glad to Serve”.
