Our Core Functions
The department has responsibility over the following;
Postgraduate Studies
i. Formulate, implement and review postgraduate study regulations;
ii. Facilitate admission of postgraduate students on the recommendation of respective schools;
iii. Solicit and administer postgraduate scholarships and research grants;
iv. Administer and process postgraduate theses;
v. Ensure conduct and supervision of postgraduate programmes;
vi. Appoint supervisors, internal and external examiners and constitute the Postgraduate Board of Examiners;
vii. Coordinate the supervision of postgraduate students following the principles and requirements of:-
a. Competence and specialization;
b. Professionalism.
viii. Develop and maintain a database of ongoing and published research arising from postgraduate students in the university college;
ix. Maintain records of all past and present postgraduate students.
Partnerships and Linkages
x. Initiate, facilitate and sustain linkages between Bomet University College and other universities or similar institutions inside and outside Kenya;
xi. Liaising with Deans and Heads of Departments on linkages and partnerships
xii. Coordinating exchange programmes and sabbatical programmes;
xiii. Providing advisory services to international students and faculty at the university college.

About The Department
Bomet University College (BUC) first established the Department of Research and Postgraduate Studies in July 2019 with Dr. Tony Okwach Omusonga as the founding head. In January 2022, the department was renamed Postgraduate Studies, Partnerships and Linkages (PPL) with a broad mandate of coordinating postgraduate studies, partnerships and linkages. The department coordinates a variety of postgraduate diplomas, master and doctoral programmes. In the academic year 2021/2022, the department facilitated the admission of twenty-seven (27) postgraduate students across all the schools – the pioneer cohort of postgraduate students at BUC. The department aims at developing quality assurance system to enhance the quality of research environment as well as promoting transparent and accountable procedures for admission, teaching & supervision in postgraduate education. Partnerships and linkages are an integral part of a modern and dynamic university. We view networking with industry, research organization and academia as a strategy for improving the quality of our programmes. In this regard, the department is stepping up efforts of initiating, facilitating and sustaining linkages between the university college and other institutions – local and international. The department’s mandate is synchronized to aid Bomet University College’s mission and niche of a “green economy for sustainability”.

Message from the Head of the Department
Welcome to the Department of Postgraduate Studies, Partnerships and Linkages (PPL). The department is located at the Green Tuition Block (Upon entry into the building, turn left into the 1st office, opposite the ICT department). The department coordinates postgraduate programmes and facilitates partnerships and linkages. As we get established, quality and accountability are core to our operations. We seek to develop quality assurance systems that will ensure rigorous admission strategies, original research, completion rate and individual progression for our students. The department takes responsibility to provide support structures for professional development and a research environment that promotes creativity and innovation. We are keen on initiating local and international partnerships with industry to produce graduates who meet the needs of an evolving society. This includes working closely with regulators to ensure quality of our programmes and graduates. At Bomet University College, we are going green. Come and partner with us for a green economy for sustainability in postgraduate training.
